Social Program
The welcome reception on 28th Jan and the conference dinner on 29th Jan is offered to all participants and accompanying persons registered in the conference. For the accompanying persons is also included in the fee a half-day tour selected from the parallel tour program.
The organizers developed a special parallel tours program to the conference. This program includes half-day tours to some of the most interesting locations nearby Lisbon and is intended to partly fulfill the spare time of the accompanying persons.
During the weekend before the conference (January 26 th and 27h) or post conference ( 31 Jan), the participants and the accompanying persons can participate in all-day tours to visit interesting locations of Portugal also located in Lisbon region. The cost of this participation is not included in the fees.
The organization of all these tours is limited to a minimum of 10 participants.

Parallel tours program
Tour 1: LISBON SIGHTSEEING TOUR (1/2 Day)
Departure from hotel and drive to the Belem District, to admire the Monument to the Portuguese Discoveries and the Belem Tower, classified as World Heritage by Unesco. Visit the Jeronimos Monastery (a marvel of stone lacework with the tombs of Vasco da Gama and Camões), also classified as World Heritage. Afterwards drive through Praça do Comercio and walk through Alfama (the oldest district in Lisbon) with its narrow and steep streets. Return to hotel. |

| Tour 2: QUELUZ / SINTRA TOUR (1/2 Day) |
Departure from the Hotels to Queluz for a visit to the Royal Summer Palace, built in XVIII century, it was the summer residence of the Royal Family, and today is classified as a National Monument. The sumptuous gardens reveal a scenogrephic conception of considerable vision wich must be attributed to the architect Robbillion and the Dutch gardener Joseph Van der Kolk, according to the prevailling “French Taste”.
Proceed to Sintra, one of the most delightful places to be found in Portugal. Visit the National Palace, the fabulous Royal Residence of many Portuguese Kings, which has some wings dating from the 13th century. Return to the hotels. |

| Tour 3: ARRÁBIDA / SETUBAL TOUR (1/2 Day) |
Departure from the Hotels, and drive across the bridge over the Tagus River. Admire the superb view of Lisbon.
Visit the old Castle of Sesimbra and admire the beautiful scenery of this fishing town.
Drive to Azeitão, and visit a famous wine cellar to sample the local wines. Visit a handicraft centre to admire its “Azulejos” (hand made glazed tiles).
Drive to Arrábida Mountain, a unique natural reserve giving a breathtaking panoramic view over Setubal and Troia.

Departure from the Hotels and drive northwards to the beautiful village of Óbidos, a medieval symbol of narrow streets surrounded by walls.
Proceed to Nazaré, the most famous portuguese fishing village for panoramic visit, shopping and lunch.
After lunch proceed to Batalha for a visit to the Monastery, a masterpiece of the Gothic-Manueline architecture.
Proceed to Fátima, for a visit to the world famous pilgrimage shrine to the Virgin Mary.

| Tour 6: ÉVORA TOUR (Full Day) |
Departure from the Hotels, and drive across the world’s largest cork region for an exciting journey into the past.
In Évora, capital of the province of Alentejo, visit the ruins of the Roman Temple of Diana (from the 1st century), the Romanesque Gothic Cathedral, S. Francisco Church (a late gothic structure famous for its Bones Chapel) and the University.
A walk along its streets will help you to enjoy this typical town, classified as World Heritage by Unesco. Lunch.
During the return drive to Lisbon, you will be able to admire an example of the Megalitich (Cromelec of Almendres) and Setubal, famous fishing centre.

Post – Conference Technical Visit
A technical visit to Barra Bridge at Ria de Aveiro, built between 1971 and 1975 submitted to reinforcement and repairing works since the end of 2006, is planned for 31of January. This visit is free of charges for participants registered in the conference. A minimum number of 20 participants will be required for the realization of this visit.
